Lindsays Faith ~120 days out of the Wild

Lindsays Faith and Mary during their first "Touch" ~ One of our first days together

Lindsays Faith at BLM holding Facility (my first view of her)

Lindsay's Faith is a 7 year old roan American Mustang mare. She is of Spanish decent, exemplified in her incredibly uphill self-carriage and movement. I have never sat astride a horse so physically able to swap leads, it is simply a joy. She was born and lived in the wild in White Mountain, Wyoming for the first 4 years of her life. Surviving on only the scarce, natural forage of the land and often eating snow for hydration. I feel certain Lindsay had at least one foal in the wild, likely more. Due to the BLM management of government land, Lindsay was herded up as well as some of her herd-mates for relocation to a holding facility in Colorado. Lindsay was pregnant when rounded up and foaled a bay filly at the BLM holding facilities. Lindsay was available for adoption, but no one was willing to adopt her being wild and untouched at 6 years old and it seemed she was heading for long term holding and no hope at finding a home. Luckily for Lindsay as well as her soon to be adopter, Mary, the inagural Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover evolved with the purpose of helping older Mustangs find homes. Mary adopted Lindsay and gentled and trained her within the 100 days time frame allowed for the competition. They headed west to compete and were thrilled to finish strong, making it into the coveted finals. Lindsay now resides at High Cotton Horse Farm with her new herd-mates and the chapters of her amazing life are only beginning to un-fold. The best is yet to come for this special Mustang. We are thrilled to be entering the Reality TV Series "America's Favorite Trail Horse" in 2011. Feel free to read more details of past and present adventures with Lindsay on this page below as well as by following her blog at http://highcottonhorsefarm.blogspot.com/

{The BLM/Government management of wild Mustangs is a controversial issue, but regardless of your opinion of the BLM there is no doubt that there are Mustangs in BLM holding facilities that are desperatly in need of our help to find them forever homes...Adoption of Mustangs is the mission and purpose of the non-profit Mustang Heritage Foundation MHF and our purpose in our envolvement with the MHF as well}

Mary and Lindsay only weeks before "Filleigh Kay's" arrival

We are so excited about the Reality TV Series hosted by ACTHA "America's Favorite Trail Horse" 10 Episodes will air on RFD TV and YOU the audience will vote on the winner. We audition in April and plan to represent the Mustang breed in a beautiful light. These horses are truly one of a kind and as All American as the come.

Lindsay loves this type of competition. It envolves maneuvering obstacles out on the open trail, her favorite place to be. She even Won her first ACTHA comnpetition she ever entered..I do believe this the perfect type of competition for us!

Please join us in this adventure and "like" our Facebook page through this link We will be posting updates as this adventure unfolds! There are also links to many pictures and videos of Lindsay through her Facebook page.

Lindsay is at the top of the new website for the Mustang Heritage Foundation! www.mustangheritagefoundation.org She is in 2 of the 3 photos that randomly pop up at the top... if you do not see her just hit F5 a few times and you will. How honored we are to help represent the versatility of these amazing Mustangs!

Lindsay competed in her first ever ACTHA ride Nov. 2010 She was a perfect angel and handled each obstacle well. She even ended up in first place and won a Beautiful Classic Equine saddle pad!

The 2010 Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover was a Huge success! "Lindsay's Faith" was a star and finished strongly in her preliminary classes.

* 4th overall in trail (*first under BF Yeates Hall Of Fame AQHA Judge!)

* 8th overall in Riding/Railwork (We competed in this portion under hunt seat attire!)

*13th in Reining/maneuvers

*We did successfully herd our cow into the pen and scored somewhere in the middle of the pack in the cattle class

These finishings put her in the 9th position overall giving her a definite spot in the top twenty to preform in the Finals in the main event!

Lindsay's Freestyle consisted of flying lead changes, sliding stops, Reining spins, Jumping bounce outs (Three fences) stepping up on a 2 foot pedestal and then preforming a turn on the forehand and bridle-less Spins as a finale!..followed by a bow. ...all to the Native American folk music including tradition drums and flute!...

Lindsay was absolutley a star, but the crowd's applause did get to her a bit. She held her own, but her anxiety showed a bit towards the end of the preformance to the judges and our performance scores reflected that, but our manuever scores were some of the highest of the competition..she received many 10's! I could not have been more proud of her...she ended up finishing 17th in the Freestyle receiving a $500 cash award and a trophy halter!

Thanks to Triple Crown feed Lindsay was one of the best conditioned horses there and thanks to Soft-Ride boots she remained comfortable even in her concrete stall. Even with the demanding preformance schedule packed in over just two days Lindsay remained fresh and energetic, ready for her next challenge at any given moment!

Lindsay is now turned out on a lush pasture and is enjoying some time off, even though I do still hop on her a couple times a week :) We have started some pattern work on the barrels and she is a natural! we plan to do some barrel racing next year. We are also VERY excited to be competing in the upcoming ACTHA rides as well as Extreme Cowboy races!

We can not wait to compete in the Supreme Mustang Makeover next year. Lindsay will be staying with us, but next years Mustang MAY be available after the competition to an approved home.

If you are interested in adopting your own Mustang contact us and we help you. I (Mary Jordan) am an approved TIP trainer and can gentle your new Mustang for you at no cost to you if you choose to adopt!

Below is our post from the beginning of the 2010 SEMM

HCHF will compete in the first ever Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover! We could not be more excited to have the opportunity to take on such a unique challenge. The "Supreme" is similar to the other Extreme makeovers, yet a bit different. The other Extreme Makeovers are regional and typically focus on 3 or 4 yr olds that are given to selected trainers at random. The trainer does not get to pick their Mustang, but also does not have to purchase them either. In the Supreme the trainers pick out and adopt their own Mustang and they are all 6 yr olds! Each trainer will have around 100 days to gentle and train their new partner and will compete in Texas in August for $100,000! It is such a wonderful way of placing the older Mustangs in wonderful homes. We are each committed fully to the care of our new partners for at least a full year before we gain title. I have all ideas ours will not be going anywhere though! I have personally always been fascinated with Mustangs and the freedom and spirit that they represent. I feel blessed with the opportunity to develop such a unique relationship with such a powerful, independent individual. I am certain it will be a truly unique partnership. How often do we have the opportunity to touch the spirit of an 1000 pound animal that can and has survived and thrived on their own, without the aid of human intervention. It will be a relationship built on trust and mutual respect I am sure. I will not, could not ever "break" the spirit of such a confident being. I only hope to enable that spirit to show the world what it means to be truly free and content in one's self. There may be a few physical fences surrounding our new partner, but she shall not be fenced in. The next 100 days will be a welcomed adventure.

First Touch (above)

My First look online (above)

Above is lot # 34, we have named her "Lindsay" after my Daddy, whom along with his wonderful wife Judy have been a huge asset to jump-starting our Mustang adventure :) Lindsay is a confident mare that is very comfortable in her own skin...and looks good in it too! She is a roan and even though we do not ride the color, she still is awful pretty to look at. I do not think I'll mind staring at her for 100 days. She is from White Mountain , WY and is a 2004 model. She has had at least one foal and ran free until 2007 when she was captured and brought to the BLM holding facility. It is unfortunate that there is not enough land for all of these Wild Mustangs to continue to roam free, but it is a blessing that they are managed in such a way as to prevent over-population and starvation. The quality represented in these Mustangs is truly amazing! I am thrilled to be bringing such talent to HCHF. We will strive to offer the highest quality of life for this amazing girl. Thankfully we are blessed with 35 acres of green pasture in the middle of nowhere :) Lindsay will live out her days on large lush pastures her at HCHF.

Thank you so very much to every one that helped make the Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover a reality for HCHF in 2010!

***Many of you are now aware that I was pregnant during Lindsay's training and competition last year.***

We would like to announce that our daughter, Filleigh Kay Jordan, arrived safely into the world Oct. 3rd, 2010. We are so very thankful to Celey of Blessed Births for her assistence as a Doula. She helped our dream of a natural, drug free birth become a reality. Please visit her site http://www.blessedbirths.net/ if you are ever in need of Doula services in the Wilmington area. Even if a natural birth is not a priority, you will still be thankful to have her at your side.
